Future simple (indefinite) - Will / Shall 2

Мы не используем will, чтобы сказать о том, что мы что-то запланировали или решили:

  • Diane is working next week. (not Diane will work)
  • Are you going to watch television this evening? (not Will you watch)

О ‘is working’ и ‘Are you going to ... ?’ см. уроки 19, 20.

Но часто, говоря о будущем, мы не говорим о том, что кто-то решил что-то сделать. Например:

Kate is doing an exam next week. Chris and Joe are talking about it.
Кейт на следующей неделе сдаёт экзамен. Крис и Джо говорят об этом.

CHRIS
Do you think Kate will pass the exam?
Думаешь, Кейт сдаст экзамен?
JOE
Yes, she’ll pass easily.
Да, она легко сдаст.

She’ll pass не означает ‘она решила сдать’. Джо говорит о том, что случится, по его мнению, в будущем. Он прогнозирует будущее.

Когда мы прогнозируем, пытаемся предсказать будущие события или ситуации, мы используем will/won’t. Т.е. точно мы о будущем сказать не можем, оно не определено, отсюда и второе название для future simple - это future indefinite (неопределенное будущее)

Еще немного примеров:

  • Jill has been away a long time. When she returns, she’ll find a lot of changes here.
  • ‘Where will you be this time next year?’ ‘I’ll be in Japan.’
  • That plate is hot. If you touch it, you’ll burn yourself.
  • Tom won’t pass the exam. He hasn’t studied hard enough.
  • When will you get your exam results?

Мы часто используем will (’ll) с:

probably
I’ll probably be home late tonight.
I expect
I haven’t seen Carol today. I expect she’ll phone this evening.
(I’m) sure
Don’t worry about the exam. I’m sure you’ll pass.
(I) think
Do you think Sarah will like the present we bought her?
(I) don’t think
I don’t think the exam will be very difficult.
I wonder
I wonder what will happen.

После I hope мы, как правило, используем настоящее время (will также возможно):

  • I hope Kate passes the exam. (или I hope Kate will pass ...)
  • I hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow.

Обычно мы используем will, когда говорим о будущем, но иногда мы используем will, когда говорим о данном моменте времени. Например:

  • Don’t phone Ann now. She’ll be busy. (= she’ll be busy now)
I shall ... / we shall ...

В настоящее время использование shall для образования будущего времени в утвердительных предложениях крайне редко и носит формальный характер. Тем не менее, посмотрим что о нём нужно знать.

Shall используется только с I и we. Вы можете сказать:

I shall или I will (I’ll) we shall или we will (we’ll)

  • I shall be late this evening. (или I will be)
  • We shall probably go to Scotland in the summer. (или We will probably go)

В разговорном английском мы обычно говорим I’ll и we’ll:

  • We’ll probably go to Scotland.

Отрицанием shall является shall not или shan’t:

  • I shan’t be here tomorrow. (или I won’t be)

Не используйте shall с he/she/it/you/they:

  • She will be very angry. (not She shall be)

1. Отметьте правильную форму глагола в этих предложениях.

  1. Diane isn’t free on Saturday. She’ll work / She’s working. (She’s working is correct)
  2. I’ll go / I’m going to a party tomorrow night. Would you like to come too?
  3. I think Jenny will get / is getting the job. She has a lot of experience.
  4. I can’t meet you this evening. A friend of mine will come / is coming to see me.
  5. A: Have you decided where to go for your holidays?
    B: Yes, we’ll go / we’re going to Italy.
  6. There’s no need to be afraid of the dog. It won’t hurt / It isn’t hurting you.
