Japanese Hiragana Alphabet: Table of Characters with Transcription and Stroke Order

Yes, this is another syllabary, and learning it is mandatory. Both syllabaries must be learned, it doesn’t matter which one is first and which is second. Read more about the difference between the syllabaries in Lesson 4.

Below are examples of the correct stroke order for the Hiragana characters.

Note that the characters consist of strokes, each written in one continuous motion (regardless of its complexity) in a specific direction. (Click on the image to view the animation.)
